Exploring The High Fat, low carb diet
During the last couple of years there have been several “new” dietary strategies which are supposed to help bodybuilders get extremely lean. One thing these diets have in common is a fairly high protein intake, somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30% of daily calories. Another common feature is to reduce carbohydrate intake in favor of higher fat intake. Some go as far as to limit carbs to 30-50 grams a day, while providing around 70% of the calories from fat. The fundamental idea behind these approaches is to reduce carb intake to reduce insulin levels. Because insulin is a inhibitor of fat breakdown, the thought is to get reduce insulin in the system so the body can burn more body fat. Sounds great, but it doesnít work for several reasons.
